WHAT IS RED PROPOLIS?
Red propolis, the rarest of all, is almost exclusive to our region—specifically, to a mangrove area in the state of Alagoas. However, this variation of red propolis has also been discovered, in smaller quantities, in some regions of Cuba.
In Brazil, propolis has been classified into 13 groups based on its organoleptic and physicochemical characteristics. The 13th type is red propolis, which has been an important source of research since the late 1990s. Its properties derive from numerous compounds, including terpenes, pterocarpans, prenylated benzophenones, and, most notably, flavonoids.
RED PROPOLIS AND STUDIES
Flavonoids have been highlighted in research for their potent pharmacological actions, including antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, healing, and antiproliferative properties.
