🇺🇸✨ Episode 38 of Prova Me Conta: Karen's Arroz Doce for Festa Junina
Karen brought one of the most beloved Festa Junina desserts to Prova Me Conta: traditional arroz doce, Brazilian rice pudding. 🌽🥛❤️
Creamy and fragrant with clove, cinnamon, and vanilla, it's the kind of dish that instantly brings back family gatherings, childhood quermesses, and all the simple moments that stay with you forever.
A recipe full of warmth, tradition, and flavor — perfect for sharing with the people you love. 🥹
Ingredients
- 💧 1 liter (about 4 cups) water
- 🌿 Clove and cinnamon, to taste
- 🍚 Rice
- 🥛 1.2 liters (about 5 cups) milk
- Sugar (optional)
- Vanilla
- 🥫 Sweetened condensed milk
- Heavy cream (creme de leite)
Instructions
- In a pot, bring the water to a boil and add the clove and cinnamon, so the rice starts absorbing the spices right away.
- Add the rice and cook until tender, stirring occasionally.
- Once the rice is tender, add the milk and sugar (if using) and mix well.
- Stir in the vanilla and condensed milk, mixing until fully incorporated.
- Cook over medium-low heat for 15–20 minutes, stirring constantly, until the rice turns nice and creamy — it will still look a bit soupy at this point, but don't worry, it thickens more as it cools.
- Turn off the heat, then add the heavy cream (drained, if using the canned kind), stirring until fully combined.
- Serve in individual cups or a large dish, finishing with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top.
- Enjoy warm or chilled — whichever you prefer!
Tip: arroz doce can be frozen in individual portions. Once thawed in the fridge, enjoy within 48 hours.
