Propolis is a resinous substance of complex composition, produced by bees.
Composed essentially of wax, pollen, resins and balms, essential oils and secretions from the bees' head glands, propolis seems to have its biological properties related to the presence of a variety of widely studied biologically active compounds, among which stand out: flavonoids, aromatic acids, terpenoids and phenylpropanoids, fatty acids and elements such as calcium, iron, copper, manganese and vitamins B1, B2, B6, C and E.
