Composed essentially of wax, pollen, resins and balsams, essential oils and secretions from the glands of the bees' heads, propolis appears to have its biological properties related to the presence of a variety of biologically active compounds, widely studied, of which the following stand out: flavonoids, aromatic acids, terpenoids and phenylpropanoids, fatty acids and elements such as calcium, iron, copper, manganese and vitamins B1, B2, B6, C and E.
